Statement of Public Meeting Notice

|
This was a Regular Meeting of the Board of
Education of Bernards Township. Notice of the time
and place of this meeting was provided and copies
of that resolution were forwarded to the official
newspapers as designated by the Board of Education
and to the Township Clerk and a copy of the notice
was posted on the bulletin board of the Board of
Education Offices in accordance with P.L. 1975
Chapter 231A.

|
BE IT RESOLVED that the Bernards Township Board
of Education shall meet in closed session to
discuss the following: litigation; review of
qualifications of persons under consideration for
employment; negotiations; and further

|
BE IT RESOLVED that the matters discussed in
closed session will be disclosed to the public as
soon as and to the extent that such disclosure can
be made without adversely affecting the public
interest or without violation of the
confidentiality of personnel.

|
|
On motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Ms.
Hagaman, and approved by all present, the Board
recessed into closed executive session at 7:03
p.m.

On motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Ms.
Woolford, and approved by all present, the Board
returned to public session at 7:55 p.m.

hereby approve a trip for the Ridge High School
Forensics Team to participate in the Harvard
University Speech Invitational to Cambridge,
Massachusetts from February 16 through February 19,
2001.

3) Superintendent Valerie A. Goger provided a
brief history of the Kindergarten Committee
including the charge to the committee and schedule
of research. The members of the committee provided
information in regard to the current kindergarten
program and reported on the visitations to other
districts, budget concerns and current research
available.

|
Comments and questions from the public included
the areas of curriculum, preparation and skills
required for full-day kindergarten, additional
support within the classroom,
advantages/disadvantages of extended day vs.
full-day program and the availability to parents of
compiled research.
|
|
|

2) The Bernards Township Board of Education
acknowledges receipt of the December, 2000
Financial Reports from the Board Secretary, the
Board Secretary’s Monthly Certification of
Budgetary Line Item Status and monthly investment
report for December, 2000 and the Treasurer’s
reports for October, 2000 and November, 2000
certifying that all reports are in agreement; and
further

|
BE IT RESOLVED that pursuant to N.J.A.C.
6:20-2.13(e), the Bernards Township Board of
Education, after review of the Secretary’s
Monthly Financial Report and upon consultation with
the appropriate district officials, and to the best
of their knowledge, certifies that as of the date
of the Secretary’s Monthly Financial Report,
no major account or fund has been overexpended and
that sufficient funds are available to meet the
district’s financial obligations for the
remainder of the fiscal year.

hereby accept the resignation of Alexis Smith as
Permanent Substitute Teacher Liberty Corner School,
effective January 22, 2001.
2) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby accept the resignation of Denise Chakov as
Language Arts Teacher William Annin Middle School,
effective on or before March 4, 2001.
3) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby accept the resignation from Dawn DeMartino
as School Newspaper Advisor Ridge High School,
effective March 2, 2001.
4) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby accept the resignation of Barbara Lorenzo as
Permanent Substitute Teacher at Oak Street School,

William Annin Middle School, at a per diem rate of
$174.50, effective January 18, 2001 through on or
about June 22, 2001.
7) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby approve the emergent hiring of Cindy
Mastrian as Grade 2 Teacher Liberty Corner School,
at a salary of Step 2 BA $35,626 prorated to
reflect start date of February 12, 2001 through
June 30, 2001, at an actual salary of $16,562 as
maternity leave replacement for Danielle
Stigliano.
8) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby approve the emergent hiring of Elizabeth
Halsey as Special Education Teacher Cedar Hill
School, at a salary of Step 11 MA$49,069 prorated
to reflect start date of January 29, 2001 through
June 30, 2001, at an actual salary of $25,271 as
maternity leave replacement for Lori Hoeman.
9) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby approve the emergent hiring of Patricia
Gambino as Math Teacher William Annin Middle
School, at a per diem rate of $174.50, effective
January 22, 2001 and upon receipt of Certificate of
Eligibility with Advanced Standing Step 6 BA
$38,174 prorated through June 30, 2001.
10) The Bernards Township Board of Education does
hereby appoint Myranda Plesmid as Permanent
Substitute Teacher William Annin Middle School, at
a salary of $90 per day, effective January 2, 2001
through June 22, 2001.
